One Thousand and One Hope

61” x 24”

“One Thousand and One Hope” is an urban intervention and a socially engaged art project, which aims to communicate and interact with the community of school children and their parents. More than 1,000 coins of HKD one dollar were sticked on a street wall to construct the word “Hope” in a small area in Kowloon Tong surrounded by schools and churches.

In Cantonese slang, one thousand and one can mean the one and only. The title emphasises Hong Kong parents’ hope for their children’s future. It can also be simply read as 1,000 coins and one word, hope.

The project is also a social experiment to find out how long the artwork can last for. It is a satirical take on humanity as the our hope taken away by some greedy people eventually.
